Effects of 8-methoxycoralen(8-MOP) on the proliferation and melanization of Cultured Normal Human Melanocytes without UVA

Abstract

Background:
@EN Psoralen has been used in the treatment of certain hypopigmentary disorders with UVA or solar irradiation. However a recent report the actions of psoralens are direct and do require the presence of ultraviolet light. The report also suggested
that
the specific receptors other than DNA would be present.
@ES Objective:
@EN This study was done to identify the effects of 8-methoxypsoralen(8-MOP) on the proliferation and melanization of cultured normal human melanocytes without UVA.
@ES Methods:
@EN Melanocytes were cultured in melanocyte culture medium including 16% or 5% FBS. We added 8-MOP by their concentrations from 10-9M to 10-4M. After 48 hours' treatment, we investigated the melanocytes proliferation and the melanin contents
@ES Results:
@EN We could not detect any significant differences of melanocytes proliferation and melanin contents between the control and experimental groups.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN There were on effects on the proliferation and the melanization of cultured normal human melanocytes with 8-MOP only. (Kor J Dermatol 1994 ; 32(5) : 832~837)
